9 Crew Members Dead & 2 Missing After Cargo Vessel Sinks Off East China Coast

Nine members of a crew perished when the cargo vessel they were transporting sank off Yantai City in the Shandong Province in east China, per the Beihai Rescue Bureau of the country’s transport ministry.

Early on Sunday morning, the cargo vessel named “Tianfeng369” sank in seawaters 30 nm northeast of Yantai. Per Xinhua news agency, 14 members of the crew were on board the cargo vessel when it got struck by lightning.

At around 4:43 a.m., the rescue bureau got the report and immediately sent a vessel and helicopter rescue to provide aid in the salvage drive.

Rescuers managed to save 12 individuals from the sea. Of them, three are in a stable condition, and nine have no signs of life. The rescue mission for two missing crew members continues to be underway.

The shipowner is Tianfeng Marine Shipping Co.Ltd., based in Shouguang city of Shandong province.
