29-Year-Old Crew Member Found Dead On MSC Cruise Ship After Departing From Durban
MSC Cruises SA has to say that the death of a crew member on one of its ships dubbed MSC Orchestra is “accidental”. Lebo Mavuso, the MSC Cruises SA spokesperson, said that the 29-year-old female crew member passed away on Thursday night.
On Friday, the vessel departed from Durban to embark vessel embarked on a three-night voyage. MSC Orchestra restarted cruises to SA in January after stopping its operations for about one month. It has been steadily taking part in three- and four-night excursions starting from Durban.
The company reports being in touch with her family and has extended its condolences for their loss. The death is being investigated by local authorities. The company will, however, continue assisting.
Per Crew Center, a website managed by ex-crew members who share experiences of work and life on cruise ships, the woman’s colleagues had been devastated by her sudden demise.
Crew Center said that per a source, the crew member had experienced a severe injury. A medical emergency was announced on the vessel’s PA system, and the medical personnel rushed to help her. However, they were unable to save her.
The crew member is of South African origin. A source mentioned that it was her first contract.
