13 Missing After Passenger Ship KM Cahaya Arafah Capsized In Eastern Indonesia
A passenger ship named KM Cahaya Arafah with 77 individuals on it sank in the waters off Indonesia’s North Maluku, leaving 13 missing.
The ship was apparently hit by strong waves in poor weather conditions on Monday night when it was sailing in the South Halmahera district, per Yusuf Latief, a spokesman associated with the national search and rescue office.
Personnel associated with the local disaster management agency, the office, soldiers, volunteers, and policemen are carrying out a search and rescue mission, and 64 people have been rescued so far, Xinhua news agency reported.
The search and rescue mission is underway now, he informed Xinhua over a call.
The rescuers were coming around the scene as well as along the coasts, the spokesman said.
