11 Crew Members Jump Into Water As Cargo Ship Hits Fishing Boats Off Vietnam
A Panamanian-flagged cargo vessel struck two fishing boats, after which the latter sank. The incident occurred off the shores of southern Vietnam.
The cargo ship Sea Noble left Ho Chi Minh City and was sailing to Haiphong when she hit the local fishing vessels around 15 km off Vung Tau on Saturday.
The fishing boats were not moving when they were hit by the cargo ship. Both had actually halted to enable their crew members to carry out repair work.
The crew members jumped into the water after the impact of the collision, which also led to both boats sinking immediately afterwards.
The crew clung to a few life buoys and were saved by vessels in the area.
There were a total of 11 crew on board the two fishing boats, and all are accounted for and have been turned over to the Vietnam Border Guard. One of the crew members was treated for injuries and chest pain.
Sea Noble dropped anchor off Vung Tau, and local authorities are investigating the incident.
