Watch: Major Fire Reported In Barcelona Port After Ferry Slams Into Crane
Firefighters worked to extinguish a fierce fire that erupted in the port of Barcelona after a ferry operated by the Italian ferry company GrandiNaviVeloci(GNV) crashed into a gantry crane. The crane collapsed on impact and fell atop four nearby containers which caused a major fire. The fire was large enough to be visible from several kilometres.

Major parts of the port have been closed since authorities are still working to get the fire under control. So far no injuries or casualties have been reported.
The ferry Excellent was docked in the port amid very rough weather with heavy rain and strong winds. The region has been facing severe weather conditions for the past few days.

This is the second GNV ship to have been involved in an incident in the port of Barcelona in recent past – its ship Fantastic had collided with the cruise ship Viking Star earlier this year.
