The Sustainable Shipping Initiative (SSI) – a pioneering coalition of companies from across the global shipping industry – has announced it has developed the concept of a ‘Seafarers’ On-board Charter’ – a best practice charter that can be adopted by ship owners and operators to further enhance the welfare of seafarers beyond the mandatory standards of the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC).
In May 2016, the average confidence level expressed by respondents in the markets in which they operate was 5.1 on a scale of 1 (low) to 10 (high). This is a slight improvement on the 5.0 recorded in February 2016, but is still the second lowest rating in the life of the survey, which was launched in May 2008 with a confidence rating of 6.8.
