Maersk Line’s first 18,000 teu vessel, the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller, which was doing the rounds on her maiden voyage in Northern Europe last week, has prompted much speculation on her economies of scale, particularly as HHI has just confirmed that it is negotiating an order for five slightly larger ships with UASC.
The first of two new container vessels of Eimskip was launched in Weihai in China. The launching went well and it’s expected that the vessel will be delivered in the beginning of January 2014, and that she will call her home port in Iceland the second quarter 2014.
