World’s First Methanol Dual-Fuel Intelligent VLCC Under Construction
The world’s first methanol dual-fuel intelligent Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) is under construction at Dalian Shipbuilding, marking a groundbreaking step in green maritime technology.
This eighth-generation VLCC is a behemoth at 333 meters long and 60 meters wide, capable of transporting 2.1 million barrels of crude oil. It's designed with sustainability and advanced environmental features at its core.
Equipped with a methanol dual-fuel main engine, the ship integrates cutting-edge emission-reduction technologies like an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system, Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) for generators, and an open desulfurization washing tower.
The vessel’s innovative design aims for maximum energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness, setting a new benchmark in environmental compliance and operational performance.
Advanced technologies will optimize energy usage, cargo management, and ship operations. The design also ensures safety and seamless maintenance for extended operational life.
The project is a collaboration between Dalian Shipbuilding and China Merchants Shipping, building on their legacy of pioneering vessels like 300,000-ton VLCCs and LNG carriers.
This revolutionary vessel supports China’s “dual carbon” approach, promoting sustainable development and reducing carbon emissions in line with global environmental goals.
With precision project management and innovative design, Dalian Shipbuilding is setting a new standard for the future of green shipping with this VLCC, blazing a trail for the industry.
