US Navy Gets Latest Arleigh Burke-Class Destroyer, Future USS John Basilone
US Navy has formally accepted the delivery of the future Arleigh Burke-Class Destroyer USS John Basilone (DDG 122).
Named after Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone, a renowned World War II veteran, the destroyer was transferred from General Dynamics Bath Iron Works.
The Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, DDG 122 is designed to perform anti-air, anti-submarine, and anti-surface warfare missions.
The DDG 122 will significantly expand the US Navy fleet’s capabilities and strengthen their advantage at sea.
The sailors aboard DDG 122 will serve as a living testament to John Basilone’s perseverance and sacrifice, honoring his Medal of Honor and Navy Cross-worthy heroism.
Christened in June 2022 and set to be commissioned in November, the USS John Basilone will join the Navy’s operational forces, enhancing defensive capabilities.
