U.S. Navy’s First LPD Flight II Ship Harrisburg Launched—Here’s What You Need to Know

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) has successfully launched the U.S. Navy’s first LPD Flight II amphibious transport dock ship, Harrisburg (LPD 30).

Harrisburg (LPD 30) was transported from land to water using translation railcars, followed by final preparations in the floating dry dock before its official launch.

Harrisburg (LPD 30) is part of a broader program that includes additional ships, with LPD 33, 34, and 35 recently secured through a procurement deal.

A contract modification has also been granted for the next America-class large-deck amphibious ship (LHA 10), further enhancing naval power.

Ingalls Shipbuilding is currently constructing two more LPD Flight II vessels, Pittsburgh (LPD 31) and Philadelphia (LPD 32), with pre-construction underway for Philadelphia.

The San Antonio-class ships are vital for amphibious warfare missions, providing the Navy with robust capabilities for national defense and humanitarian efforts.
