U.S. Navy Intercepts Iranian Missiles Aimed at Israel
The U.S. Navy intercepted Iranian ballistic missiles targeting Israel, following a major attack that heightened tensions in the Middle East.
The missile launch was in retaliation for Israeli operations against key figures in Iran’s ‘Axis of Resistance,’ including Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis.
Two U.S. destroyers, USS Bulkeley and USS Cole, equipped with the Aegis Combat System, intercepted multiple Iranian missiles over the Eastern Mediterranean.
The Aegis system on these Arleigh Burke-class destroyers is specifically designed for missile defense, showcasing U.S. Navy’s ability to counter missile threats.
Iran reportedly launched around 200 ballistic missiles, twice the number used in a similar attack in April, escalating the conflict further.
The U.S. Navy sent a dozen interceptors to support Israeli defense systems, successfully neutralizing most of the threats.
The missile attacks came just days after the deaths of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas politician Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
With tensions escalating, global stakeholders remain on high alert as the U.S. and Israel coordinate closely to respond to future threats.
