U.S. Navy Destroyers Shoot Down Houthi-Launched Drone & Anti-Ship Missiles In Bal al-Mandab Strait
The U.S. Navy destroyers USS Stockdale and USS Spruance successfully intercepted multiple missiles and drones fired by Yemen’s Houthi forces on November 11, 2024. This intense encounter took place in the strategic Bal al-Mandab Strait.
The coordinated attack involved three anti-ship cruise missiles, five ballistic missiles, and eight drones targeting the destroyers. Remarkably, both ships escaped damage, and no crew members were harmed.
The assault followed two military operations announced by the Houthis. They claimed the attacks targeted U.S. naval vessels, including the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea.
Pentagon spokesperson Air Force Major General Patrick Ryder denied the Abraham Lincoln was attacked, confirming the carrier remained safe, highlighting the precision and readiness of U.S. forces.
The Houthi forces have increased their attacks since October 7, focusing on vessels they allege are linked to Israel. These actions have escalated tensions in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea.
In response, the U.S. and allies have launched strikes against Houthi weapons storage facilities in Yemen, aiming to reduce their capacity for further attacks.
The Pentagon continues to monitor the region, ensuring U.S. Navy forces remain vigilant and prepared to protect personnel and assets from any emerging threats.
This confrontation underscores the heightened security challenges in the Middle East, reaffirming the U.S. Navy's commitment to safeguarding international waters and global trade routes.
