U.S. Navy Deploys AI For System Monitoring on Warships

The U.S. Navy destroyer USS Fitzgerald is the first warship to use AI for predictive maintenance, revolutionizing fleet readiness.

Developed by Fathom5, the AI system, ERM v4, detects equipment failures before they happen—preventing costly breakdowns and delays.

This technology processes 10,000 sensor readings per second, giving real-time insights into the ship’s hull, mechanical, and electrical systems.

During deployment, the AI flagged a critical part nearing failure—allowing the crew to replace it before it could take the ship offline.

By moving away from traditional “run-to-failure” maintenance, the Navy can reduce downtime, improve efficiency, and enhance combat readiness.

With plans to expand ERM v4 across the fleet, AI-driven maintenance is set to redefine how the U.S. Navy operates in the future.
