South Korea’s Busan Port Set To Become World’s Third Largest Port By 2045

South Korea unveils a bold $10 billion plan to make Busan Port the world’s third-largest port by 2045.

The plan includes building Jinhae New Port, a mega facility with 66 berths—doubling the current number at Busan Port.

Jinhae New Port will handle the world’s largest ships, with a capacity of 30,000 TEU per vessel and massive storage expansion.

The first phase of Jinhae will operate a single-operator system for 9 berths, reducing inefficiencies and boosting cargo operations.

By 2032, South Korea will establish 16 global logistics centres in Southeast Asia, Europe, and the U.S. to promote Busan Port worldwide.

Green initiatives are key—25% of Busan Port’s energy will be renewable by 2032, with a goal of 100% clean energy by 2050.

Eco-friendly fuel infrastructure for methanol and ammonia will be installed, reducing carbon emissions and supporting neutrality goals.

Busan Port’s transformation is set to reshape global logistics, solidifying its role as a powerhouse in global trade and the South Korean economy.
