Singapore’s First Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) Coming in 2027
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has signed a long-term agreement with Singapore LNG Corporation to bring Singapore its first Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU).
The FSRU project kicks off on October 23, 2024, with the goal of enhancing Singapore’s energy security and guaranteeing a steady supply of natural gas.
The FSRU will be constructed by Hanwha Ocean in South Korea, set for delivery in 2027, and will be moored at Jurong Port, ready to support Singapore’s energy needs.
This floating unit will receive, store, and regasify LNG, delivering it to shore for power generation—a critical asset for a country that relies on natural gas for 95% of its electricity.
With successful FSRU operations in Turkey, Hong Kong, and Indonesia, MOL brings proven expertise to ensure the FSRU meets Singapore’s energy demands efficiently.
At 298.8 meters in length and 51 meters wide, the FSRU will store 200,000 cubic meters of LNG and regasify 5 million tons annually.
Part of MOL’s “BLUE ACTION 2035” plan, this project aligns with MOL’s environmental vision to promote low-carbon and decarbonized solutions.
Compared to onshore facilities, FSRUs are cost-effective, faster to build, and provide flexibility in LNG supply—essential for Singapore’s growing energy infrastructure.
