Sailors’ Society Launches a Helpline For Women Seafarers

Women at sea face unique challenges—loneliness, workplace struggles, and barriers their male colleagues may never encounter.

On International Women’s Day, Sailors’ Society launched a 24/7 helpline exclusively for female seafarers, offering emotional support and crisis assistance anytime, anywhere.

This safe and confidential service ensures that women can speak with a female team member who truly understands their struggles at sea.

The initiative is backed by international marine insurer Skuld, reinforcing efforts to make the maritime industry more inclusive.

Women make up just 2% of the global seafaring workforce, with most working on cruise ships, often feeling isolated in a male-dominated industry.

This helpline works alongside Sailors’ Society’s female Peer-to-Peer Support Groups, strengthening the support network for women in maritime.

With industry leaders pushing for gender equality, this helpline is a crucial step toward making seafaring a safer, more inclusive career for women.
