Russia Accuses UK Of Secretly Supplying Arms To Ukraine Via Black Sea Grain Corridor
Russia has accused the UK of secretly supplying weapons to Ukraine under the guise of the Black Sea grain corridor, an allegation raising concerns amid ongoing tensions.
Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, claimed the UK is covertly arming Ukraine through the corridor, countering UK claims that Russia has been disrupting essential grain exports.
Zakharova pointed to alleged video evidence from Russia’s Ministry of Defence, which reportedly shows arms at the Ukrainian port of Yuzhny. The UK, however, has yet to respond to these accusations.
This controversy surfaced after UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer accused Russia of threatening global food security by attacking Ukrainian Black Sea ports, restricting grain shipments.
Starmer also argued that these disruptions prevent critical supplies from reaching Palestinians and developing nations reliant on Ukrainian grain.
The United Nations has voiced deep concern over recent Russian strikes, reporting significant damage to six civilian vessels and crucial grain facilities since early September.
Ukraine, a major global wheat and corn exporter, relied heavily on Black Sea routes, shipping around six million tons of grain monthly before the 2022 invasion.
Since a UN-backed grain deal fell apart last year, Ukraine established its own shipping route, determined to maintain its role in global food supply despite the ongoing conflict.
