HII Wins $9.6 Billion Contract To Build 3 Amphibious Ships For U.S. Navy
HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding has landed a $9.6 billion contract to build three San Antonio-class amphibious ships and a new America-class large-deck amphibious ship.
This multi-ship procurement deal is the first of its kind for amphibious vessels.
Company officials say the deal provides stability for the shipbuilders and the entire community, securing jobs and economic growth.
The contract supports the US Navy and Marine Corps' goal of maintaining a fleet of at least 31 amphibious ships to meet global mission demands.
Over half of Ingalls’ workforce is engaged in constructing amphibious ships, backed by 650 suppliers from 39 states.
Ingalls has delivered 13 San Antonio-class ships and 15 large-deck amphibious ships to the US Navy, cementing its role in national defense.
San Antonio and LHA-class ships are designed for survivability and adaptability, enabling rapid responses to combat, deterrence, or humanitarian missions.
With this significant contract, Ingalls continues to play a vital role in the US Navy’s defense strategy, contributing to national security and naval readiness.
