China Delivers World’s 1st Commercial Liquefied CO2 Transport Ship, Northern Pioneer

China delivers the world’s first commercial liquefied CO2 transport ship, marking a breakthrough in marine carbon management.

Named Northern Pioneer, this eco-friendly vessel was independently designed and built by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd.

With a capacity of 7,500 m³ of liquefied CO2, the ship features LNG dual-fuel technology and cutting-edge energy-efficient design.

Advanced steel tank materials and innovative cargo systems make the ship safe, efficient, and environmentally sustainable.

After delivery, it will serve Norway’s carbon storage project, transporting CO2 emissions for permanent seabed storage at 2,600 meters deep.

This vessel sets the stage for solving land-based carbon dioxide emissions, paving the way for future marine carbon storage solutions.
