China Debuts Powerful Stealth Drone Ship “Killer Whale” With Advanced Warfare Capabilities

China has just revealed a groundbreaking military asset: the stealth drone ship “Killer Whale,” a high-tech, unmanned vessel set to redefine naval warfare.

Making its debut at the Zhuhai Airshow, the Killer Whale stole the spotlight, showcased alongside a fleet of aerial drones, emphasizing China’s innovation in unmanned military technology.

Developed by the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), the Killer Whale stands out for its powerful, long-duration operational capabilities on open seas, designed to give China a strategic edge.

With a displacement of 500 tonnes, this trimaran drone can travel autonomously over 4,000 nautical miles, reaching impressive speeds of 40 knots, thanks to its dual diesel-electric propulsion.

Armed with an array of weaponry—including anti-ship and anti-air missiles, rockets, and torpedoes—the Killer Whale is built to perform multi-mission tasks, from surveillance to anti-submarine operations.

Its versatility & range make it ideal for strategic roles, especially in narrow waterways. Analysts believe it could be highly attractive for Middle Eastern nations seeking robust but regionally suited defenses.

As China aims to become a global leader in unmanned military technology, it envisions Zhuhai as a hub for nations interested in acquiring its advanced military products.

Since starting its large-scale unmanned vessel projects in 2015, China has made significant strides, building various prototypes and aiming to compete directly with the U.S. in autonomous naval power.
