1 Ton of Cocaine Found on Hapag-Lloyd Boxship
Ecuadorian naval forces intercepted nearly one ton of cocaine hidden aboard the container ship Guayaquil Express. A major smuggling operation was unfolding at sea.
Acting on a tip-off, authorities boarded the vessel and found 1,745 blocks of drugs packed into 20 tightly sealed packages, each weighing 40 kg.
The shocking part? A 25-member armed gang used speedboats to secretly board the ship under the cover of night, planting the illegal cargo before vanishing.
Ecuador’s navy responded swiftly, deploying Coast Guard and Marine Corps units to intercept the ship before the contraband could reach its destination.
No arrests have been reported yet, but authorities are investigating the gang’s possible links to international drug cartels exploiting global shipping routes.
Ecuador has become a key transit point for cocaine from Colombia and Peru, with smugglers increasingly targeting container ships to move drugs undetected.
The battle against maritime drug trafficking is intensifying. As security tightens, criminals are getting bolder—what will be their next move?
