Disney Launches Extravagant Cruise Ship – Disney Dream

The Walt Disney Company launched its third cruise ship, the Disney Dream, in Port Canaveral in Florida, USA. The ship built at Meyer Werft shipyard, Germany, has its maiden journey slated to be on January 26th. This is the first of two new ships to join the Disney fleet. Guests have begun booking their Disney Dream cruise since November 9, 2009.

This $900 million Disney Dream cruise ship will sail three, four and five- night cruises from Port Canaveral to the Bahamas post its maiden voyage. The Disney Dream, among its many features, has a one of a kind water coaster that sends guests racing above the upper decks of the ship and an animated turtle that converses with children about life in an ocean. The 13,000 ton ship also carries in it an innovative lounge where the sun sets over skylines of a different famous city every night.

Certainly a treat for adults and youth alike, the Disney Dream offers a cruise experience that caters to each and every guest. A 765 feet long flume ride, the Aquaduck Coaster takes guests 13 feet over the side of a ship in a “swing out loop” allowing them a view of the ocean 150 feet below just as high powered jets move them in a coaster- like thrill. Another perk of the ship is the latest in stateroom innovation – the Virtual Porthole. High definition cameras placed outside of the ship help the guests view real- time into the sea through the Porthole.

In addition to this is the kids’ area in the ship- the Disney Oceaneer Club and the Disney Oceaneer Lab. Aptly named the Magical Oasis for Children, these two kids play areas allow children to play among animated characters from Disney’s famous movies- Toy Story, Finding Nemo and Monsters, Inc among others. The second play area, the Oceaneer lab- filled with maps and maritime instruments enables children to try their hand at animation, become a pop star or navigate through digital seas.

The Disney Dream has also been designed keeping in mind the tweens and teens, with the creation of the “Chill- Out Zones”. The ‘Edge’ is a one of a kind lounge for tweens aged 11 to 13, featuring a multitude of hi tech entertainment including video karaoke using green- screen technology. A 9,000-square- foot club, Vibe, is the stop for guests aged between 14 to 17 with access only to those who possess the exclusive “teen only” swipe card. Set in a trendy indoor/ outdoor space, the club allows teens to create and edit videos, mix dance tracks and access on-board social media applications. To add to their entertainment is the presence of a private outdoor deck for sunbathing inclusive of two wading pools, misters and pop jets, and deck games like ping- pong and Foosball.

With a remarkable interior design that provides a perfect blend of art- deco and fun- filled Disney whimsy, the Disney Dream creates a magical family experience. The 4000 passenger hold Dream is the first ship in the Disney cruise line since 1999. A sister ship, the Disney Fantasy, is next on the charts for the Disney company with the ship to make its debut in April 2012.
