Zhen Hua 15 Becomes 1st Ship To Dock At India’s Vizhinjam International Port
After decades of anticipation, the first ship will finally arrive in Kerala on Sunday at the Vizhinjam International Port. Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Minister of Ports and Shipping, will be the event’s chief guest on Sunday. Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister, will open the event. The occasion will be attended by Union Minister V Muraleedharan, Leader of the Opposition VD Satheesan, CEO of Adani Group Karan Adani, and others.
Kerala’s most cherished project, the Vizhinjam port, is set to welcome its first ship after months of planning by the state government.
Our journey began in 2015 when the people of Kerala & Thiruvananthapuram entrusted us with their dream of this port. Today, as the 1st vessel berths at #VizhinjamPort, the trust & love shown by all have brought us to this momentous day. My heartfelt salutation to each one of you. pic.twitter.com/VhRMCVusTA

Massive security measures have been put in place in the port and surrounding area as part of this. It is absolutely forbidden to enter the port or the high-security area. Around the port gate, over 400 police officers are on duty. For added protection, Indian Reserve Battalion officers have also been assigned.
The cargo vessel Zhen Hua 15′ arrived at Vizhinjam port at the end of August after leaving Shanghai port in China.
Although the Vizhinjam port has not yet been formally commissioned, Karan Adani, the chief executive of Adani Ports & SEZ Ltd., has declared that it is expected to happen by May of next year, well before the deadline of December 2024. Nonetheless, an endeavour that has been in development for more than 30 years has reached a major milestone with the docking of the first vessel.
