YSA Design Unveils Sail-Powered Catamaran Cruise Ship Concept “Seabreeze”
Norwegian firm YSA Design has unveiled a revolutionary concept of “Seabreeze”, a sail-powered catamaran cruise ship designed to provide an unparalleled and environmentally responsible cruising experience.
The 104.5-meter-long vessel features four 50-meter-high folding sails installed on 6-meter-high deck bases, ensuring emissions-free propulsion.
The YSA Design Partner and Senior Architect, Trond Sigurdsen, emphasises that while sustainability is essential, the cruise industry must constantly redevelop itself.
He added that a sustainable ship that brings environmentally responsible passengers to the sea and reaches destinations others cannot is a clear opportunity at the higher end of the cruise market.
The ship can sail shallow seas because of its 4-meter draft design, and its two hulls provide comfort and stability for up to 200 passengers.
The cutting-edge vessel has engines powered by green bio-methanol for propulsion and hotel operations and a heavy drive system that allows for silent operation on battery power as needed.
The two 18.2-meter-wide hulls of the catamaran are joined by an inverted U-shaped framework that extends 18.5 meters.
Each hull has four decks plus a “yacht top,” with enough for 155 crew members and 100 dual-occupancy guest cabins.
YSA Design’s futuristic project also includes retractable platforms that descend to the water, allowing for sunset dining, wellness experiences, and beach and watersports clubs.
A translucent bay structure between the hulls will enable visitors to float over the sea, providing breathtaking vistas of shipwrecks and coral reefs.
The design emphasises causing the slightest disturbance to communities and wildlife, aligning with current destination-based cruising trends.
According to Sigurdsen, the Seabreeze will spark an upsurge in areas where sailing has a long history.
Since its founding in 1985, YSA Design has gained recognition worldwide for its creative solutions and professionalism in the cruise ship sector.
The studio is growing its clientele internationally and continues to combine creativity, experience, and knowledge to meet the needs of real estate developers and ship owners.
