Yemen’s Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for two recent attacks on the US Navy warship and a commercial vessel in the Red Sea.

The incidents that occurred several days ago are the most recent escalation of attacks in the ongoing conflict.

In a televised speech, Houthi Military Spokesman Brig. Gen Yahya Saree said that the militia’s naval units carried out a missile strike on the USS Mason, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer deployed in the Red Sea.

Saree also claimed a coordinated attack on a vessel known as the “Destiny”, which was reportedly targeted while navigating the Red Sea.

The rebel group has not revealed the particular time or impact of these attacks.

The USS Mason, part of the US-led coalition tasked with protecting shipping routes from the Houthi threats, reportedly intercepted and destroyed an anti-ship ballistic missile launched by Houthi militants earlier this week.

However, the extent of damage or casualties caused by the strikes on either vessel remains unknown.

Recent conflicts between the Houthi forces and the international maritime forces have led to a situation of instability in crucial waterways such as the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

The Houthis have launched numerous missile and drone attacks on commercial and naval vessels in these regions.

The increased maritime dispute has led to international countermeasures, with the US and European Union stepping up efforts to counter Houthi threats.

In recent weeks, the US forces have reported successful interceptions of Houthi missiles and drones aimed at commercial and naval vessels.

However, concerns remain about the possible consequences of ongoing Houthi aggression on regional stability and international trade.

The disruption of maritime traffic via critical corridors, such as the Suez Canal and the Mediterranean Sea, highlights the conflict’s broader consequences for global trade.

As diplomatic efforts to address the Yemeni crisis continue, stakeholders highlight the importance of establishing a cease-fire.

The United Nations and other international organizations urge a comprehensive approach that addresses the conflicts’ root causes while maintaining regional stability.
