Watchman Killed After Being Run Over By Lifting Machine At Uran Container Yard
A 64-year-old watchman lost his life at a freight container yard in Khopta, Uran, after a lifter machine ran over him.
The incident occurred around midnight on Wednesday when the operator of the heavy machinery failed to see the watchman due to poor visibility in the yard.
The victim, identified as Eknath Ragho Patil, was on duty when a container lifter, driven by 24-year-old Mohammad Aslam Jaish Mohammad Khan, accidentally ran over him.
Initial investigation reveals that poor lighting in the yard was a main cause behind the casualty.
A police official stated that Khan was responsible for shifting containers but did not take necessary safety measures before operating the heavy equipment.
As a result, he lost control of the vehicle, crushing Patil under it. He suffered severe head and body injuries and died on the spot.
After the accident, Uran police filed a case against Khan under Section 106 (death by negligence) and Sections 125(a) and (b) (reckless endangerment of life) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Legal proceedings are underway.
Authorities are now examining whether the container yard had sufficient safety measures in place and if lapses in precautionary protocols contributed to the tragedy.
