Watch: U.S. Coast Guard Airlifts Injured Crew Member From Oil Tanker Off Texas Coast
The U.S. Coast Guard medevaced a crew member from an oil tanker 9 miles off the coast of Freeport, Texas, on September 10, 2024.
The operation was launched after the Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a request at 3:50 p.m. reporting that a 21-year-old male crew member had been injured.
After consulting with the duty flight surgeon, it was decided to proceed with the medevac operation.
A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter aircrew from Air Station Houston was dispatched to the location.

Upon the crew’s arrival, the injured mariner was hoisted onto the helicopter and transported to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
The mariner was said to be in a stable condition.
The identity of the injured crew member and other details have not been disclosed.
The U.S. Coast Guard’s prompt coordination ensured that the injured crew member received immediate medical attention.
