Watch: Large Container Ship Rolls Uncontrollably In Rough Seas

A dramatic video of an OOCL containership struggling in rough seas has resurfaced on social media.

The footage, taken over a decade ago, shows the ship rolling dangerously in strong waves, known as parametric rolling.

The video, shot from a nearby vessel, was seen tossing at extreme angles of up to 45 degrees.

The ship’s draft- how deep it sits in the water- changes quickly, going from 10.2 to 13.8 meters in just a few seconds.

Though the video is from 2009, it has recently resurfaced, grabbing people’s attention for its depiction of the dangers faced by ships at sea.

The ship, identified as MV OOCL Brisbane, was sailing from Geelong, Australia.

Parametric rolling happens when a ship encounters certain wave patterns that cause it to roll uncontrollably, which can be dangerous to the ship and its crew.

The video shows the importance of identifying such risks and ensuring that ships are designed to handle them safely.
