Watch: 145-Meter Floating Dock Sank At Yachtley Shipyard in Turkey
A 145-meter floating dock sank recently at Yachtley Shipyard in Kocaeli, Turkey, while a yacht retrieval operation was underway. The accident happened while a ship was being loaded onto the dock, causing it to submerge.
Fortunately, all 24 employees on duty were saved and taken to safety. With a 4,500-ton capacity, the floating dock was a valuable asset to the shipyard in Turkey.
The Kocaeli Regional Port Authority launched administrative investigations despite the sinking and found that the ship that was supposed to be repaired escaped unharmed. A dramatic bystander video of the rescue effort showed the dock’s twin cranes descending as one end sank below the water’s surface.

Yachtley Shipyard was founded in 2005 and has extensive in-house capabilities that cover everything from initial steel cutting to interior finishing and yacht outfitting. The shipyard has an administration building, a production building, and two assembly hangars.
The Kocaeli Regional Port Authority verified that no reports of environmental pollution had been made after the incident. On the other hand, local media’s drone footage showed a slick near the sinking.
The authorities have highlighted the importance of protecting both human safety and the marine environment as they continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the floating dock’s sinking.
