US Urges Auction Of Russian Oligarch’s Superyacht Costing $7 Million In Maintenance
The U.S. government has reported that it has been spending over $7 million each year to maintain a superyacht that it detained from one Russian oligarch back in 2022 and also urged a judge to allow it to auction the vessel.
The relevant authorities in Fiji seized Amadea following a warrant that alleged it was owned by Suleiman Kerimov, who’s been placed under sanctions by the U.S.
Efforts to auction this yacht are being challenged by Eduard Khudainatov, who claims he owns the yacht and says it cannot be forfeited as he hasn’t been hit with the sanctions.
The U.S. prosecutors say that the “excessive” maintenance bill shows that it justifies an auction.
