The United States announced that its forces attacked underground weapon depots, used by Houthis to store their ammunition which they used for attacking naval warships and commercial ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

CENTCOM said, “U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted multiple precision strikes against two Iranian-backed Houthi underground Advanced Conventional Weapon (ACW) storage facilities within Houthi-controlled territories of Yemen.”

They confirmed that no U.S. personnel were harmed in the attack and no infrastructure suffered from damage in the strike. However, it is unclear if any members of the group were killed or injured in the attack.

Houthis used weapons from these depots to launch strikes against ships, which is why it was important to target them.

The Central Command also said that the attack was necessary to prevent Houthis from terrorising shipping in the region.

Houthis have attacked several vessels in the region, stating they would not stop unless Israel stops its war against Hamas in Gaza, which has led to the deaths of thousands of civilians, including women and children.

The Houthis also carried out several strikes against Israel. On December 21, it was reported that 16 civilians in Tel Aviv were injured after a Houthi attack.

In response, Israel hit Houthi targets in Yemen, with Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, stating that Houthis would face the same fate as Hezbollah and Hamas.
