Two vessels were damaged on October 1, 2024, after being targeted by missile and sea drone attacks near Yemen’s Red Sea port of Hodeidah, per the maritime security agencies and sources monitoring the area.

The crew of both vessels were reported to be safe.

The first incident involved the Panama-flagged tanker M/T Cordelia Moon, which was hit by an unmanned surface vessel (USV) around 64 nautical miles northwest of Hodeidah, per the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

Ambrey, a British security firm, and the Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) confirmed that the vessel was in ballast when its port-side tank was damaged. Despite the damage, it continued its journey to its next port of call.

Earlier, the M/T Cordelia Moon spotted four splashes in the water near its position, which a maritime security source identified as failed missile attacks.

Per the Ambrey and other maritime security sources, a missile hit the second vessel, a Liberia-flagged bulk carrier, approximately 97 nautical miles northwest of Hodeidah. The bulk carrier sustained damage while en route to the Suez Canal.

The authorities are investigating both incidents.

Yemen’s Houthi terrorists, supported by Iran, claimed responsibility for the attack on the Cordelia Moon. They reported using eight ballistic and winged missiles, a drone, and an unmanned surface vessel.

The terrorist group also claimed to have attacked a third ship, the Marathopolis, in the Indian Ocean with a drone and a winged missile.

The Houthis have been attacking international shipping near Yemen since November, claiming that their actions are in support of Palestinians in the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel.
