Tanzania-Flagged Cargo Ship Partially Sinks Near Iran’s Kish Island
A Tanzania-flagged cargo vessel has been left partially submerged south of Iran’s Kish Island after it began taking on water during its journey, local media reported on Wednesday.
According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, the incident happened at around 13:30 local time, roughly two miles south of the island. The ship was carrying 2,500 tons of white cement when it developed problems at sea.
An Iranian official, cited by Tasnim, said all nine crew members on board were rescued safely after the emergency announcement was made.
The vessel had departed from Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates and was en route to Shuaiba Port in Kuwait when the incident occurred.
Tasnim reported that the vessel is currently in a semi-sunken condition, showing severe tilting. The cause of the incident has not yet been identified and is under investigation.
