St. Lawrence Seaway Workers Strike For Better Wages

The St. Lawrence Seaway, situated in Canada, is starting to gain worldwide attention. As hundreds of workers at the management are on strike because of unresolved negotiations which revolve around increasing the wages of the workers.

The strike has affected cargo shipments. Unifor, the Canadian labour union representing these workers, gave a 72-hour notice before commencing the strike, allowing the vessels to safely pass by.

The Federal Ministers are now reexamining the negotiations in considering the current circumstances and the importance of supply chain stability.

Since the strike affects cargo transit via the most important route, its effects go far beyond labour disputes.

The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation is working toward an agreement that is beneficial for both parties.
