Sick Sailor Of A Foreign-Flagged Ship Saved In Vietnam

Vietnam’s Maritime Research and Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) based in Da Nang stated on 20 November that it successfully rescued a sailor from a foreign vessel who suddenly fell ill as the ship passed through Vietnamese waters.

The centre reportedly received a request for help from a BELFUJI ship flagged in the Marshall Islands at 3:45 pm on 18 November. The vessel was on its way to China from Argentina.

When the vessel was about 150 nm off Hoang Sa (Paracel) in Vietnam to the southeast, a 39-year-old sailor from Vietnam who was on the boat experienced symptoms like prolonged vomiting and deteriorating health with abdominal distension and yellow eyes and skin.

On receiving the request from the ship captain, the centre reportedly coordinated with the relevant agencies to offer essential health advice. A vessel was dispatched to get the ill sailor for treatment at a local hospital in Da Nang.
