Samsung Heavy Introduces The Future Of Cargo Safety
The South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries is all set to forge new records to decrease the number of container losses during adverse weather conditions with its all-new Special Structure Anti-Container Loss (SSA-CL) technology.
It has the capability to restrict the lateral movements of the containers by fixing the device to the ship’s lashing bridge, which will result in limiting their movements in any direction. According to the SHI, the use of SSA-CL could result in a decrease in container loss of almost 70%, which is indeed a big deal.
The issue has been addressed after a series of incidents that resulted in significant container losses over time.
While the weather conditions and the parametric rolling have gained a lot of attention when it comes to disturbances during container shipment, most of the organizations are working to find a solution for the unfavorable sea conditions, and with these, the industries have also released advisories on how the containers should be operated.
The SHI also claims that they have been certified by the world’s leading societies, DNV, ABS, LR, and KR, and applied for patents outside Korea for the device.
The world’s leading container shipping companies have given this idea a lot of attention, and to increase the dependency on the product, SHI is currently conducting strength testing on the prototype structure at Pusan National University.
