A Russian fishing trawler had been hit by a missile during the exercises being conducted by the Russian Baltic Fleet military, taking the lives of three and injuring four, one of the relatives of a deceased man told TV Rain on 21 March.

Following the incident that took place on 19 March, Russia’s authorities blamed it on a fire on “Captain Lobanov” and informed that only one had died, per TV Rain.

A video published by the media showed the vessel when it caught on fire. As the survivors were being taken away, everybody was aware that three had died, and they also knew that a rocket had struck, the relative informed TV Rain.

However, they decided to report that there was a fire. The relative wondered what kind of fire it could have been if the captain’s cabin had been totally destroyed.

On being rushed to a hospital, the survivors were interrogated by the Russian Federal Security Service (known as FSB) officers, who had also asked them not to discuss this incident.

Russia’s state media confirmed that Baltic Fleet exercises were in progress when this incident took place. Per Russia’s TASS, the press service of the Baltic Fleet informed that while training the crew members, the corvette Boikiy was working on searching, recognizing, and destroying a mock enemy sub using an anti-sub weapon system.

The corvette engaged in practical firing from advanced artillery systems at sea and with the help of air targets and practised striking a detachment of mock enemy vessels with the Uran missile system, per the press statement that TASS cited.
