Russian Navy Frigate With Supersonic Missiles Reaches Mediterranean Sea For A Scheduled Drill
The Russian naval frigate Marshall Shaposhnikov, armed with Kinzhal supersonic missiles, has reached the Mediterranean Sea via the Suez Canal.
The Russian Ministry of Defence stated that this action was part of a scheduled drill.
The vessel’s arrival in the region comes after Iran’s midnight strikes on Israel, which included hundreds of missiles and drones.
The Kremlin stated that the vessel Marshall Shaposhnikov would carry out its assigned missions according to the expedition plan.
This incident comes amid rising regional tensions following Israel’s attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, which triggered retaliatory attacks from Iran.
Israel announced successfully intercepting 99% of Iran’s missile launches with the help of its allies.
Several international leaders, including US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin, expressed a need for moderation in response to the situation and reaffirmed the US’s unwavering commitment to safeguard Israel.
Biden emphasized the need for diplomacy and reaffirmed the US military’s position in the region as a deterrent to attacks to prevent the situation from escalating.
Rishi Sunak, the prime minister of the United Kingdom, denounced Iran’s activities as reckless and showed support for Israel and its neighbours.
Despite efforts to prevent further bloodshed and settle the situation, sentiments remain high, with military and diplomatic initiatives being taken to reduce the risk of escalation in the volatile Middle East region.
