Philippine Coast Guard Extinguishes Fire On A Dredger In Manila Bay
A dredger in Manila Bay caught fire and the details of the incident were released by the Philippine Coast Guard which responded swiftly, adding that the fire was extinguished by 4:30 p.m. local time.
The fire was reported on Thursday afternoon after which Coast Guard Station Manila sent two patrol boats, BRP Sindangan and BRP Suluan to the dredger HYNZ31, which had remained idle in the Manila Bay since late November.
Pictures released by the Coast Guard authorities showed smoke coming from the vessel’s forward part and crew running on the stern.
A Coast Guard ship took its position and sprayed water to extinguish the fire, the images show.

After the fire was extinguished, the Coast Guard said there were no reported injuries and Manila Station will investigate the cause of the fire.
The vessel is registered in the Philippines and measures 109 m lengthwise.
Last week, officers of the Philippine Coast Guard said that a few dredgers in the area were working with the Chinese and were involved in the latter’s efforts to spoof AIS signals.
They cited an incident which showed a Chinese Coast Guard ship’s AIS signals, including one placing it off Manila, saying it could not have been in all the reported locations.
