MSC World America, the latest LNG-powered flagship of MSC Cruises, has completed its final sea trials in the Atlantic Ocean.

The ship, designed specifically for the U.S. market, underwent extensive testing to check its engine performance, fuel consumption, manoeuvrability, safety systems, speed, and stopping distances.

In the last phase of its preparations, the vessel is now undergoing its final finishing touches at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France.

The ship is scheduled to be delivered to MSC Cruises on March 27, 2025, followed by an official naming ceremony on April 9 at the company’s new PortMiami terminal, the largest cruise terminal in the world.

Its maiden voyage will take passengers on a celebratory trip to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve in The Bahamas before beginning its inaugural season in the Caribbean on April 12.

The ship will sail alternating 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries stopping at top destinations including Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic), San Juan (Puerto Rico), Costa Maya and Cozumel (Mexico), Isla de Roatan (Honduras), and Ocean Cay (Bahamas).

The vessel measures 333.3 meters in length and 47 meters wide and is built to accommodate 6,762 passengers and 2,138 crew members. With 22 decks, the ship offers 2,614 cabins and more than 38,400 m² of public space.

It will introduce seven unique onboard districts, each offering tailored entertainment, dining and leisure experiences. Among its 19 dining venues, passengers can enjoy four main restaurants, two buffets, six speciality restaurants, and exclusive venues for MSC Yacht Club guests.

New dining options include Paxos, an upscale Greek restaurant and the only Eataly restaurant at sea, alongside various casual dining spots.

Passengers can also unwind at 18 bars and lounges, including the All-Stars Sports Bar, offering an authentic game-day experience, and The Loft, a multi-purpose entertainment space for comedy and karaoke nights.

The ship, powered by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), will reduce emissions and prepare for a transition to bio and synthetic renewable LNG fuels.

It is also equipped with shore power connectivity, allowing it to switch off its engine while in port and minimising environmental impact.

The ship also features an advanced wastewater treatment system and a comprehensive recycling management plan. The company’s current order book includes MSC World Asia, set to launch in 2026, and a yet unnamed fourth World Class ship, expected in 2027.
