Iran to Unload $ 50 Million Worth of Crude from Tanker Advantage Sweet Seized Last Year
Iran is going to unload nearly $50 million worth of crude from Marshall Islands-flagged Advantage Sweet, a Suezmax crude tanker that was seized by the Iranian army in April last year, the semi-official Fars reported on Wednesday.
The cargo unloading follows a court order forwarded by Iran’s judiciary stating that the move is in retaliation to US sanctions stopping the sale of critical medicines for Iran’s victims of a very rare skin disease. Advantage Sweet was chartered by the US firm Chevron CVX.N.
Iran has informed that this seizure was made after the tanker collided with an Iranian fishing craft, which resulted in the injury and missing of Iran’s crew members, and had attempted to flee the scene in breach of international regulations and laws.
