Iran Expands Naval Capabilities With Domestically Produced “Fully Smart” Cruise Missiles
Per state TV, Iran’s navy expanded its stockpile of advanced cruise missiles on Sunday by adding new ones made in the country. According to the TV, the naval installation in the port of Konarak, around 1,400 kilometres southeast of Tehran, is home to Talaeieh and Nasir cruise missiles.
The Talaeieh boasts a range of about 1,000 kilometres, according to Navy Chief Adm. Shahram Irani, who also referred to it as being “fully smart.” Per Irani, the cruise missile can swap targets while in flight. He said the Nasi can be mounted aboard warships and has a 100-kilometre range.
While Israel is at conflict with Iran-backed Hamas in the Gaza Strip, a suspected drone from Iran reportedly attacked a container vessel owned by an Israeli billionaire last month in the Indian Ocean.
Iran occasionally declares that it produces, commissions, and tests new military hardware that cannot be verified independently. The nation claims to have a stockpile of missiles that can reach US bases in the area as well as its bitter adversary, Israel, with a range of up to about 2,000 kilometres.
