The Red Sea ship attacks pose many problems for the shipping industry as shipping giants reroute vessels to longer and costlier journeys around southern Africa. There are concerns that the Israel-Hamas war could destabilise the entire region.

Houthis have been targeting ships in the Red Sea since November. They claim to act in solidarity with the people of Gaza who are being killed by Israeli forces.
