HD Hyundai & U.S. Anduril Partner To Develop World-Class Unmanned Surface Ships

HD Hyundai will cooperate with Anduril Industries, an AI defence company in the U.S, for developing unmanned surface ships and ship automation technology.

HD Hyundai is seeking to strengthen its cooperation with the U.S, after it recently secured its first repair, maintenance and overhaul project for a U.S. Navy Ship.

The company announced on August 7, 2025, that it signed an MOU with Anduril for cooperation in ship development.

The signing ceremony was held the previous day at HD Hyundai’s Global R&R Center in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.

The companies agreed to supply HD Hyundai’s AI ship automation technology and ship design and construction technology, along with Anduril’s autonomous mission execution system solutions.

Due to this collaboration, Anduril’s Autonomous mission execution system solutions will be integrated into the unmanned surface ships being developed by HD Hyundai for the Korean market.

HD Hyundai will design, construct and integrate AI ship automation technology into manned and unmanned ships, mainly developed by Andurill.

The two companies plan to jointly develop prototypes of unmanned surface ships for the U.S and Korean markets.

The prototype for the latter will be revealed by 2027.

A spokesperson from HD Hyundai said that unmanned ships are a vital element of future naval warfare, and through cooperation with Anduril, which has the highest level of autonomous mission execution systems, they will build world-class unmanned ships.
