A fire broke out in the engine room of the MV Stuyvesant, a 340-foot Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger, at the St. John’s River entrance around 3:30 p.m. on November 2, 2024.
The incident necessitated a quick emergency response from multiple agencies, with the U.S. Coast Guard Station Mayport playing a key role.
To control the fire, the Coast Guard boat crews quickly coordinated with the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department (JFRD) and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO).
