Bulgarian Cruise Ship Crashes Into A Wall On River Danube In Austria, Injuring 11

Seventeen guests were hurt as a Bulgarian river cruise vessel unexpectedly lost steering and hit the sides of a lock on the Danube (Austria), the APA reported on Saturday.

The 11 injured were rushed immediately to the hospital.

The vessel, with almost 160 guests on it, most of them hailing from Germany, temporarily lost power to the electronics system and was unsteerable as it sailed through the narrow locks close to 9:45 p.m. on Friday, per reports.

The vessel’s power was eventually restored, but not before the stern and bow struck the concrete sides of the lock passage close to Aschach, some miles upriver from the Linz.

The vessel experienced minor damages and continued to the next port.

The reason behind the loss of power is still under investigation.
