SINKEX of Sink Exercise is a practice of deliberately sinking a ship. Mainly carried out by the Navy, this is an peculiar practice of ship disposal wherein a decommissioned naval vessel is deliberately sunk during training practice or for testing missiles.
One such exercise was recently carried out by the Norwegian Navy to test their new missiles. The 300 ft long decommissioned frigate KNM Trondheim, was transported out into the sea off the coast of Andoy to be used as target practice.
The Navy tested its new “Naval Strike Missile” – a four-meter long 880lb weapon which was fired in the direction of the vessel.
