World’s Biggest River Cruise
The biggest river cruise in the world is the MV Ganga Vilas, which holds the record for the longest river cruise journey in the world.
The ship takes its guests on a 51-day voyage spanning 3200 km, covering parts of India and Bangladesh.
The MV Ganga Vilas, a motor vessel built in 2022, was the first cruise ship made in India. It is 62 m long and 12 m wide with a 1.4 m draft, allowing navigation in shallow waters.
The longest river cruise has 3 decks and has 18 luxury suites, with French balconies, convertible beds, LED TVs, safes and smoke detectors.
The cruise ship can accommodate up to 36 guests and has a high crew-to-guest ratio with butler service for a comfortable and luxurious experience.
It has a 40-seater restaurant offering regional and global specialities, with special menus crafted for the journey.
There is a bar on the upper deck, a spa, gym, massage rooms, loungers and an observation pavilion on the sundeck, which gives beautiful panoramic views. The interior is inspired by the mid-1900s Indian Art Scene after partition.
The biggest river cruise also offers all-inclusive shore excursions with guided tours to historical, cultural and natural sites at every major stop in the voyage.
The ship features an eco-friendly design, incorporating pollution prevention and noise control technologies.
Guests can also enjoy cultural performances, educational talks or even enrol in cooking lessons.
The cruise ship goes through five indian states: Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Assam and covers 27 river systems, including those of the Ganges, Brahmaputra and their tributaries.
Operated by Antara Cruises, it is a milestone in luxury river travel, showcasing the diverse culture, heritage and beauty of the Indian subcontinent.
The itinerary is created to highlight local culture, traditions, festivals and show vibrant markets of the region.
The cruise ship begins its journey from Varanasi, U.P., in India, and the voyage ends in Dibrugarh, Assam, in India via Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The vessel stops at world heritage sites like the Sunderbans, which are home to Royal Bengal Tigers, and Kaziranga National Park, known for its one-horned rhinos.
It visits several tourist spots, and guests can see the Ganga Aarti in Varanasi, Sarnath, Bihar School of Yoga, Majuli, Chandika Sthan Temple, Ajgaibinath Temple and historical places like the Tomb of Lord Cornwallis in Ghazipur, Munger Fort, Buxar, and the site of the 1764 battle.
The cost of a ticket onboard the world’s longest river cruise is around 25,000 INR per person per night, making the total cost for the full 51-day trip about ₹12.75 lakh (INR) per person (subject to change).

The biggest river cruise was flagged off on Jan 13, 2023, by Indian PM Narendra Modi. The first guests were 32 tourists from Switzerland who signed up for the whole trip.
The cruise ship shows Indian innovation in luxury travel and opens new avenues for river cruise tourism in the region.
